BMW Motorcycle Brake Lines
Brake lines are an integral part of the hydraulic disc brake system in a motorcycle. Essentially, they're multilayer hoses, originally made out of rubber, but now, typically inner-lined with Teflon and surrounded by a reinforcing layer made out of braided nylon, Kevlar, or stainless-steel, wrapped in a protective sheath.
What they do is pressurize brake fluid, sending it from the master brake cylinder to the brake calipers. He latter press the brake pads installed on them to a corresponding brake rotor. This generates create friction -- the resistance your bike needs to slow down and come to a complete stop.
Unfortunately, no brake line lasts forever. They can degrade from use and age, for example, beginning to crack and leak in the process. Plus, sometimes, air can infiltrate them, giving your ride's brakes a soft, spongy feel and thereby hindering their performance. Flushing and bleeding brakes can eliminate the latter, but if the former is your problem, more than likely, replacement is necessary.
Before you buy new ones, though, there's one thing to keep in mind. Be sure that you order the real thing: genuine OEM brake lines. They'll fit your BMW motorcycle best. After all, the brand you love manufactures them to spec for its models.
