The network of coolant lines on just about any motorcycle is made up of an upper radiator hose, a lower radiator hose, heater hoses, and, on some engines, a bypass hose. They connect the several parts of the cooling system to one another --namely, the engine block, the radiator, and the water pump.
So, it follows that they have to be durable, made to stand up to everything from extreme heat and vibration to systemic pressure and the various chemicals in the cooling system. Indeed, they are -- lines that aren't otherwise made of a reinforced synthetic rubber, like ethylene propylene EPDM, are comprised of hardy silicone. As a result, many last several years at a time, though some can last even longer.
No coolant line lasts forever, though. Environmental extremes can eventually crack or split them or cause them to bulge and soften, and that can often lead to damaged connective ends. The result: usually, a coolant leak.
When these things happen, your best option is to replace the coolant lines altogether. Your best choice for the project? Genuine OEM. What BMW Motorrad manufactures for its motorcycles is designed to fit them perfectly, after all -- and that guarantee, you may not always get on the aftermarket. You're in luck, too: our auto parts store carries a wide selection, and you can order what you need right here online.
