Headlights are an important safety feature of BMW motorcycles. It may or may not be obvious, but they both improve visibility in low light and at night, and they inform other drivers (and riders) where and how far away you are. There are three different types, generally, that accomplish this.
Halogen headlights are one example. They're relatively inexpensive and fairly easy to replace, though you may have to change them relatively frequently.
Xenon headlights are another example. They're also called high-intensity discharge or HID headlights. These are much brighter than the average head lamp, they put out less heat, and they last longer than usual. However, they can be slightly more expensive, and they may require a BMW technician's help when it's time to fix or install one.
The last example: LED headlights. They're exceptionally energy-efficient, and they have a much longer life. They may be a little more expensive to replace, however, and they're a tad less common than other kinds of headlights.
Either way, no headlight is permanent, exactly; you'll have to change them all eventually. Take care of it when they weaken, they blow out, or their electronics die. What kind of headlighting does your bike need? That depends on two things, primarily: what it came with and what it's compatible with. Consult your owner's manual for more info.
When it's time to buy new ones, be sure to order genuine OEM. The headlights that BMW Motorrad makes are guaranteed to fit your model, after all. You can get them right here at our auto parts store.
